Today's sermon was presented by Gary McDowell He called the little folk in the church to the front to show them what he had been given as gifts for Christmas. He explained how the DVD of the Incredible's that he had received was about a group of characters, each one with their own unique powers and abilities, each one different and unique like all of us, all different and each with our own unique identities. He went on to add that we had all received the most fantastic gift ever. One that would always be there and always keep its values in our lives. That gift was of course God's son Jesus and there was nothing we received that would be as INCREDIBLE and enduring as long as we remembered to keep him as part of our daily lives. Gary then showed his fold out back scratcher pen and when he showed what it was, he said that it would be with him in his pocket whenever he needed it, like Jesus...always there when we need him. Gary then showed a box of gold covered chocolates. These, he told us, were like the gifts that were brought to baby Jesus by the Three Wise Men. Gary then invited a member of the congregation to do the reading. Matthew 2: v 1-12 He then carried on with the story of the Wise Men who traveled over 800 km from foreign lands to see the baby Jesus, even going via King Herod without fear to discover where the New King of the Jews was to be born. Gary also raised some interesting and thought provoking ideas that he asked the congregation to think about in order to become more thoughtful and dedicated to our task of becoming everyday followers.

 Rev. Barbara Wilson conducted the Christmas Service...with a brilliant message around how we disguise ourselves while Jesus was always as people saw him in an every day way. The children all dressed in various costumes and they were then asked what they were famous for. We ended with this beautiful hymn sung by all in the congregation Service was led by Aleida and also had the children doing their Nativity play for us, most enjoyable.  It was Sunday morning the 15th December 2018. The church was decorated with a wreath and a Christmas Tree. The church listened to the announcements from Emily and watched as a younger member of the congregation was invited to come to the front and light the next of the candles to signify that we were getting that much closer to the day of birth of the baby Jesus. She then handed over to Terry who was at the ready with his famous "doggy bag". He mentioned that it would be the last time we would be seeing his bag this year and that he had something special in it this time. He called the little children in the church to the front to see what was in the bag. There was much excitement as they peered into the bag. Eyes sparkled as the waited to announce their discovery. "So what is it ? " he asked. " A present" they all shouted Terry proceeded to shake the wrapped box and everyone heard the rattling sound inside the box. "What do you think it is ?" Terry asked. "Sweeties" the all shouted. " Well lets have a look then" was the Welsh accented reply. " would you like to open the present ?" " Yes" they all cried in unison, and immediately proceeded to rip off the outer wrapping paper to disclose a box of sweets. "Now what does this teach us?" Terry asked. " It shows that one gift can be shared by everyone, like Jesus. Each one of you can take one sweet and then everyone else will still have a chance to be part of the sharing and receiving of a gift. Just like when Jesus was sent to earth, he was a gift to us all, and he was kind and shared his kindness with everyone around him. Terry then went on to explain how the gift of Jesus was an unselfish one and that it should be something that we all practice on a daily basis.  |
